INDEED HE IS RISEN!

Stikharion, Tone 6

Thy Resurrection, O Christ Saviour / the angels hymn in the heavens / vouchsafe also us on earth / with pure hearts / to glorify Thee.

Troparian, Tone 5

Christ is risen from the dead / trampling down death by death / and upon those in the tombs bestowing life.

Hypakoe, Tone 4

Before the dawn, Mary and the women came / and found the stone rolled away from the tomb. / They heard the angelic voice: / “Why do you seek among the dead / as a man the One Who is Everlasting Light? / Behold the clothes in the grave! / Go and proclaim to the world: / The Lord is risen!” // He has slain death, as He is the Son of God, saving the race of men.

Kontakion, Tone 8

Thou didst descend into the grave, O Immortal, / Thou hast destroyed the power of hades, in victory thou didst arise, O Christ God, / proclaiming, “Rejoice!” to the myrrh-bearing women, / and granting peace to thine apostles, // and bestowing resurrection on the fallen.

Zadostoinik, Tone 1

The Angel cried unto her that is full of grace / O Pure Virgin, rejoice! / and again I say rejoice! / for thy Son is risen / from the grave on the third day / and He hath raised all the dead // O ye people be joyful!

Shine, shine O new Jerusalem: / for the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee, / dance now and be glad, O Zion / do thou exult O Pure Theotokos // in the arising of Him Whom thou didst bear

Grand Duchess Maria of Russia Interviewed by Greek Periodical “Kathimerini.”

The presence of the Grand Duchess Maria at the funeral of HM King Constantine of Greece was noted with curiosity by many Greeks, who were unaware that there were any surviving members of the Romanov family at all, and that the Royal Houses of Greece and Russia have had bonds for generations.

Kathimerini has published the interview online in both Greek and in English, available to readers below:

European Sovereigns to Attend Funeral of King Constantine En Masse.

Greece’s King Constantine II, who died on Tuesday aged 82, will not be granted a state funeral, the government said Wednesday. Denied state honors and courtesies by the Government, the funeral will be held Monday January 16th at the Cathedral in Athens, and the King will be interred at the former royal family’s burial ground at Tatoi, northwest of Athens, where his ancestors also rest.  All expenses will be paid by the family. The government will be represented at the funeral by Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.

Despite the Greek government’s insistence that this is not a state occasion, there will be more heads of state and members of reigning and non-regnant royal houses in Athens for the funeral than have been seen in Athens in decades.  The Greek government will not be able to ignore the presence of many Kings and Queens who will be arriving over this weekend.

The Italian newspaper Il Giornale has confirmed the presence of the following: the Queen of Denmark Margrethe II will be accompanied by Crown Prince Frederick. The Danish Royal House is the senior branch of the house of Schleswig-Holstein-Sondersburg-Glucksburg, of which the Greek Royal House is a cadet branch.

The Spanish royal family will be represented in full, with King Felipe IV, his father the King Emeritus Juan Carlos and his mother (the late King’s sister) Queen Sofia of Spain.

King Harald of Norway will be represented by Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit.

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg will attend, as will King Carl and Queen Silvia of Sweden.

King Charles of Great Britain (a close friend of the late king) will be sending the Prince and Princess of Wales,

King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands will attend with former Queen Beatrix.

Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna of Russia will attend, alongside heads of other non-regnant Sovereign Houses, her cousin Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia will be attending, as well as Prince Radu of Romania, who will represent his wife, HM Margarita, Custodian of the Romanian Crown.

Head of the Russian Imperial House Mourns the Death of Her August Cousin, HM King Constantine II of Greece.

2023-01-11 The Head of the House of Romanoff Mourns the Death of King Constantine II of the Hellenes

The Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, her son and heir, H.I.H. The Grand Duke George of Russia, and his spouse H.S.H. Princess Victoria Romanovna, are deeply saddened by the death of H.M. King Constantine II of the Hellenes (1940-2023), who passed away in Athens on 10 January 2023, and pray for the repose of his soul and extend their sincere condolences to the Head of the Greek Royal House, Prince Pavlos, Queen Anne-Marie, and all the Royal Family and people of Greece.

King Constantine II was the great-grandson of Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna of Russia (1851-1926), Queen of the Hellenes, granddaughter of Emperor Nicholas I of Russia (1796-1855), and spouse of King George I of the Hellenes (1845-1913).

King Constantine II acceded to the throne in 1964 upon the death of his father, King Pavlos I of the Hellenes (1901-1964) and was removed from power as a result of a military coup by the “black colonels” in 1967.

The newly reposed king was the godfather of Grand Duke George of Russia.

Grant, O Lord, eternal rest, in blessed repose, to Thy servant King Constantine, and may his memory be eternal!
