Grand Duke George Mikhailovich celebrates Good Friday in Moscow

2019-04-26 On Good Friday, Tsesarevich and Grand Duke George Mikhailovich visited the parish of the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity near the Saltykov Bridge. The Grand Duke was accompanied by an adviser to the Office of the Head of the Russian Imperial House, Mr. I.I. Svirsky, and prayed at the services of the removal of the Shroud.

At the end of the Divine Services, the Grand Duke was greeted by the chief cleric of the temple, Hieromonk Nikon (Levachev-Belavenets), who noted that it was the first time in more than a hundred years that the Heir to the House of Romanov was celebrating Holy Week in his fatherland.

Afterwards in the parish house the Grand Duke spoke with the clergy and the parishioners of the temple over tea.

On April 21, 2019, on the Feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday), Grand Duke George Mikhailovich attended divine services, and later attended a reception held by the secular magazine Tatler at the Bolshoi restaurant, during which the Grand Duke Georgii Mikhailovich met Russian cultural figures and members of the public.

The heir to the Head of the Russian Imperial House communicated warmly with all those present, and shared with them his impressions of visiting his Homeland. He discussed social issues and cultural activities and promoted the idea of development of cooperation in the fields of charity, philanthropy, and preservation of historical heritage.

Producer Yana Rudkovskaya gave His Imperial Highness a gift from her husband, Yevgeny Plushenko - 26 lifetime photos of the Imperial Family. The Tsesarevich was very touched by this gift presented to him on the day of the commemoration of the memory of his August Grandfather H.I.H. the Grand Duke Vladimir Kirillovich, who headed the Russian Imperial House from 1938 until his death on April 21, 1992.

His Imperial Highness thanked the Chief Editor of Tatler magazine K. Solovyov, the organizers of the reception and all those gathered, congratulated them on the Holiday and wished them health, joy and creative success.

On Great Wednesday and Holy Thursday of Passion Week, Tsesarevich George Mikhailovich attended Divine services in churches near Moscow.

April 24, 2019, on Great Wednesday, Grand Duke George Mikhailovich visited the Transfiguration Monastery of the Holy Danilov Monastery in the Serpukhov District of the Moscow Region, where he prayed at the Divine Services in the home church of St. Spyridon Trimifuntsky.

On the morning of April 25, Great Thursday, the Grand Duke prayed for Divine Liturgy in the church of St. Basil the Great at the school of the same name in the village of Zaytsevo in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region, will be reported on the official page of the Russian Imperial House on the social network Facebook .

Earlier on the same page it was reported that a meeting of Grand Duke Georgy Mikhailovich with cultural figures and public representatives of Russia was held on the evening of Palm Sunday.

Russian Imperial House shocked and saddened by the news of the series of terrible terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka

The Head of the Imperial House of Russia, H.I.H. the Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, and her son and heir, H.I.H. the Grand Duke George of Russia, were shocked and saddened by the news of the series of terrible terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka, committed during Easter celebrations and counting numerous local residents and foreign nationals among its victims. Their Imperial Highnesses extend their deepest condolences to the people of Sri Lanka and pray for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and for the recovery of the injured. The Grand Duchess and Grand Duke are confident that the Christians of Sri Lanka will receive the compassion, support, and protection of their Buddhist, Hindu, and Muslim countrymen.

April 8/21 -- Today is the date of the anniversary of the accession of H.I.H. the Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna to all the rights and obligations of the Head of the Imperial House of Romanoff (1992).

After the death of her August Father, she inherited the rights and duties of the Emperors of all the Russias by virtue of Article 30 of the Fundamental Laws of the Russian Empire in connection with the extinction of the last dynastic male line of the Russian Imperial House.

The Russian Imperial House Saddened by News of the Destruction at Notre-Dame de Paris

The Head of the Imperial House of Russia, H.I.H. the Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, and her son and heir, H.I.H. the Grand Duke George of Russia, were deeply saddened by the news of the destruction by fire of a significant part of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. This is a tragic event for the entire Christian world, a portentous sign, and an irreplaceable loss for the culture of all the world. Their Imperial Highnesses pray that the Lord will preserve the lives of all the firefighters and others who are offering aid during this dreadful catastrophe, and that He will save from destruction the many holy relics which are kept in the Cathedral. The Grand Duchess and Grand Duke send their deepest condolences to the people of France.

Russian Legitimist is pleased to announce that we have been granted permission to add the following lecture “Firmly and Unflinchingly As Did My Late Father” by Dr. Russell E. Martin of Westminster College, Westminster, PA., U.S.A.

This lecture was delivered at a conference at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. convened to commemorate the significant anniversary year of 2018, when the 100th anniversary of the martyrdoms of the Holy Royal Martyrs was noted around the world.

Dr. Martin has made several articles available to the Russian Legitimist Research section in the past, and we are pleased to be able to reproduce the text of his presentation in full; a presentation which notes the special relationship of the Tsar-martyr to the fundamental laws of the Empire, as well as his relationship to Orthodox Monarchy.
